A big challenge facing new tech startups is the strategy.
Startups need to be lean and build quick proofs of concept and MVPs (minimum viable products) to demonstrate and validate ideas, often by taking many shortcuts early on.
However, they also need to be focused on long-term strategy and technical viability. Building a quality tech product requires time, and thinking about technology vision and strategy requires a longer-term view. Skills and personal values that satisfy both the short-term, all hands on deck, multi-disciplinary approach, and the more thoughtful, strategic vision including more complex technology stack and process are hard to find in a single person or team.
