Factory Noticeboard Week 4: 20/08/18

Another week has rolled by and that means it’s time for the fourth edition of Factory Noticeboard. Below is our summary of startup news, events and information that caught our eye in the last week.

Maven has released their bi-annual newsletter. It’s an overview of some of their investments and an interesting article about innovation.

UK Startup Mercarto has announced a partnership which has given it access to potentially 300 million terms through AliExpress. This follows on from Mercato’s announcement of a raft of new features all to hope entrepreneurs easily launch an end to end online retail business.

Barclays has announced they want to create a new ‘Unicorn Breeding Ground‘ in the North for tech startups. Greg Doran, Barclay’s Northern Head of Tech, Media and Telecoms, has said: “I would love in the next 3-5 years to have businesses come into a Barclays branch with an idea, we take them through a high-growth and TMT proposition, they lean into us for venture debt and five years later it’s a billion-pound-valued business or done an IPO – that’s the Holy Grail.”

Finally here’s a nice advice piece of ‘6 things all tech entrepreneurs should know‘. Some really common sense advice which may sound obvious, but you’d be surprised at how often this advice is ignored. I think the most important advice here is investing in your team and ensuring you have the right people on board, especially in the earliest stages of a start up.

If anything has caught your eye in the world of startups, tech or business, feel free to comment below and we’ll try and include it within our next edition of the Factory Noticeboard.
