Time flies when you’re in the startup world and it’s already time for another edition of The Factory Noticeboard. Here’s our overview of startup news, events and information that caught our attention last week, with a bit of a focus on what could be going on in 2019 in the world of technology.
Here’s an interesting read from Rani Molla about the growth and the realities of voice assistants like Alexa and Siri. Voice is seen as one of the big ways tech will advance into 2019 with its abilities to integrate into our business and personal lives. We only need to look at Google’s recent demo of their voice assistant actually making calls to organise a hair appointment to see how far they have come… where it will end up… who knows??
Garner has released a list of their “Strategic Technology Trends for 2019“. They have pointed towards Artificial Intelligence being the go-to technology of 2019. To name a few of the areas Gartner has picked out for AI development, I think the growth of autonomous AIs (think driverless cars), AI analytics in big data and smart spaces are the areas I think that could have the biggest impacts on our lives.
Last and certainly not least another big tech trend in 2019 that people have pointed out is the growth of AR and VR. 2018 saw the introduction (or re-introduction if we remember Google’s ill-fated ‘Google Glass’) to the market, especially in the leisure space with AR (like Pokemon Go) and VR (such as PSVR) becoming more mainstream. How this technology will come into the workplace could be incredibly interesting with how it could affect our working habits.
Quote of the Week – “The advance of technology is based on making it fit in so that you don’t really even notice it, so it’s part of everyday life.” Bill Gates, Co-founder of Microsoft
What do you think will be the big technology advances of 2019? Have you seen anything of interest? Do you have an event coming up? Feel free to comment below and we’ll try and include it within our next edition of the Factory Noticeboard.
